Foundation is now free to work with CFA and NCPC on Memorial location
Today the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation (GWOTMF) announced that the Foundation has received permission from the National Capital Memorial Advisory Commission (NCMAC) to proceed with consultations with the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) and National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC) regarding proposed sites for a national Global War on Terrorism Memorial. This permission is the result of positive meetings the Foundation held with NCMAC on October 18, 2022, and January 31, 2023, during which the Foundation team briefed the members of NCMAC on preferred sites for a Memorial and listened to their considerations.
“The Foundation is exceedingly grateful to have received NCMAC’s blessing to move forward with engaging other key stakeholders in this process,” said GWOTMF President and CEO Michael “Rod” Rodriguez. “Not only does their approval move us one step closer to the Memorial’s construction, but it reflects the dedication and professionalism with which our team and our partners are approaching our sacred mission. Anyone interested in contributing to our efforts should have no doubt we are on an upward trajectory. We will continue to keep NCMAC informed of our progress and call upon their expertise at critical decision-making junctures.”
“We are thankful to NCMAC for their professional assessment and their candid views on how to achieve the best possible outcome for the Memorial,” said GWOTMF Board Chair Ted Skokos. “We are also grateful for the work of our partners at Winstanley and AECOM, who have helped us navigate the 24-step process of constructing a Memorial on the National Mall.”
