Site A Near Lincoln Memorial Gains Favor as a Potential Memorial Location
Today the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation (GWOTMF) announced that the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) has approved Site A at 23rd St. NW and Constitution Avenue NW (see map below) as a location for the Memorial. The CFA’s approval does not constitute an endorsement, nor does it bind the Foundation to build the Memorial on this specific site.
“Securing the CFA’s approval of a specific site in our first meeting is not only a historic event but an important milestone in the Memorial’s development. Their decision also lends good momentum to our proposals ahead of our meeting with the National Capital Planning Commission on April 6th,” said GWOTMF President and CEO Michael “Rod” Rodriguez. “The Foundation is profoundly thankful for the CFA’s speedy decision and willingness to accommodate one of our preferred locations. We look forward to consulting with the CFA once we begin the design stages of the Memorial’s development, which will strive to uphold the aesthetic qualities and sanctity of the National Mall and our nation’s capital.”
“The Board of Directors is energized by the Foundation’s site selection progress kicking off 2023,” said GWOTMF Board Chair Ted Skokos. “We are grateful to the Commission of Fine Arts for looking favorably on our plans, and for providing clarity on which site to focus on going forward. We hope anyone interested in joining the Foundation’s mission is further persuaded that this Memorial is closer to becoming a reality with each passing day.”
