The Global War on Terrorism began after September 11, 2001. It continues today as America’s longest war. This war stands alone in American history as a multigenerational conflict in which the sons and daughters of one generation of veterans grew up to defend our nation in the same struggle their mothers and fathers did. More than 7,000 uniformed service members have given their lives for our nation in this war.
The Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) Memorial Foundation is leading the charge to build a Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. for all of our GWOT heroes. The Memorial will give Gold Star families, veterans, their families, and all Americans a place to reflect on the ultimate sacrifices made in defense of our security and our freedoms. The Memorial will be a place of healing for all who have suffered the loss of a loved one in connection with the Global War on Terrorism. The Memorial will also allow the people of our country and the world to learn about the monumental acts of selfless service during the last two generations in our nation’s history.
